How to Choose a Metal

The Metal

White Gold, Yellow Gold, Rose Gold, Platinum: which should you choose? A lot of this decision is dictated by your every day jewelry preferences. At the end of the day, you want something you find easy to style, comfortable to wear, and of course, absolutely stunning.

Gold

Although the most common choice for jewelry, gold can oftentimes be quite confusing to understand with the different karats (that's karat with a "k"). 24K gold is the purest, yet most soft, which means it's most likely to bruise and scratch. Anything below 24K means it's gold mixed with another alloy to strengthen the band. Typically, we recommend 14K or 18K when considering gold, depending on your budget and lifestyle. 24K is also the most yellow, toned selection; the tone of the gold becomes cooler as more metals are mixed in for strength.

Yellow Gold

A traditional look, yellow gold bring a soft, natural feel to your ring. Oftentimes, we find these settings pair best with simple solitaire diamonds to focus on the center stone itself without other distractions.

Rose Gold

If you've got a subtle pink or rosy undertone, don't underestimate what rose gold can do to complement your skin tone. This warm, romantic look is perfect to bring a little extra color into your love.

White Gold

The most popular selection, white gold was actually invented in the early 1900s, when jewelers began plating the finished ring with rhodium, which gives an almost indiscernible look from platinum. We recommend getting the ring replated every 6-12 months, but trust us when we say it's worth it. Not only is this a durable option, it's also incredibly elegant, weaving seamlessly into the rays of your center stone and visually melding together any pavé diamonds on the band.

Platinum

One of the rarest metals in the world, platinum offers that truly premium choice for your ring. A naturally silvery-white metal, platinum does not need to be replated yearly as white gold does. Additionally, it's one of the strongest metals, meaning if you've got an active lifestyle, choose platinum. The prongs are stronger and more secure, and scratches and bruises are extremely rare. Its elegance in showing off your diamond(s) and strength make it our top choice.
